Congress Launches Hearings into Alleged Biden Cognitive Decline Cover-Up
In a move underscoring growing concerns over former President Joe Biden’s mental fitness during his tenure, congressional Republicans have initiated formal investigations into what they describe as a deliberate concealment of his cognitive decline.
Senators Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) announced a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing scheduled for June 18, aiming to scrutinize the alleged “conspiracy” involving Biden’s inner circle and mainstream media to obscure his mental deterioration. Schmitt emphasized the necessity to “expose how a cadre of Biden aides and family members were the de facto commander-in-chief, while President Biden was sidelined.”

Cornyn echoed these sentiments, stating, “For this conspiracy between the mainstream media, Joe Biden’s family, and his inner circle to have hidden the impairment of the president of the United States for years… is unacceptable.”
Parallel efforts are underway in the House, where Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has expressed openness to summoning Biden for testimony regarding his cognitive state and the use of an autopen for official documents. Comer has already sent letters to five of Biden’s former confidants, including his former physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, requesting interviews, with subpoenas threatened if they do not comply.
The investigations gained momentum following the release of “Original Sin,” a book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, which alleges that Biden’s aides and family members actively concealed his cognitive issues. The book details instances of Biden appearing disoriented and struggling with memory, suggesting that key decisions may have been made by others in his administration.
Further fueling the controversy, audio recordings from a 2023 interview between Biden and federal prosecutors revealed moments where he struggled to recall key dates and events, reinforcing concerns about his mental acuity.
The White House has consistently denied allegations of a cover-up. Former First Lady Jill Biden recently dismissed claims about her husband’s mental decline as offensive, asserting that she witnessed his mental acuity daily.
Despite these denials, the lack of transparency has drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle. Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau and comedian Jon Stewart have publicly questioned the honesty of Biden’s inner circle, accusing them of misleading the American public.
The situation has also raised questions about the role of the media in scrutinizing presidential health. Critics argue that mainstream outlets failed to adequately investigate or report on signs of Biden’s cognitive decline, instead dismissing concerns as politically motivated attacks.
As the hearings approach, the American public awaits answers regarding the extent of Biden’s cognitive issues and the potential implications for national decision-making during his presidency. The investigations aim to determine who was truly in control of the executive branch and whether the public was misled about the president’s capacity to lead.
The outcome of these inquiries could have significant ramifications for public trust in government transparency and the accountability of those in the highest offices. With the hearings set to commence, the nation watches closely as Congress seeks to uncover the truth behind the alleged cognitive cover-up
