In a fervent response to the jailing of his former advisor Steve Bannon, former President Donald Trump has lashed out at President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ), calling the action a “Total and Complete American Tragedy.” Trump has also called for the indictment of the January 6 Committee, accusing them of illegal actions.
Bannon, ordered to report to federal prison on July 1 to serve a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress, found himself at the center of a controversy that underscores the ongoing political battles stemming from the January 6 Capitol riots. His sentencing follows the denial of his appeal, which had initially put his prison term on hold since October 2022.
Despite Bannon’s eventual attempt to comply with the subpoena from the January 6 Committee, the DOJ maintained that his initial refusal had caused irrevocable harm.
